John, a member of SLLA, spent his career in the Merchant Navy and in The Port of London Pilotage. During his time as Master of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners, he was Captain of the Queen's Barge during the 2012 Diamond Jubilee River Pageant.

During this two day workshop we will explore a variety of ways of adding gold leaf to a design, using both simple and more challenging techniques. Starting with the application of gold leaf flat to the page using a variety of traditional and modern gilding sizes, we will progress to reconstituting and laying manuscript gesso, gilding with loose leaf gold and burnishing to a high shine.
