Ayako Makabe

Ayako is a calligrapher who graduated from Roehampton university’s calligraphy course in 2007. She studies calligraphy from childhood in Japan and graduated in grade 10 level for Japanese calligraphy. Currently Ayako conducts commissions in Western and Japanese calligraphy for a wide variety of clients. 

Attilio Medda

Freelance calligrapher, illuminator, miniature & heraldic painter based in London. His personal work tries to blend together both traditional and modern techniques. Specialising in every kind of ceremonial and formal commissions, manuscript books and panels that require the combined use of Writing, Paintings and Gilding techniques. Digitalisation of Heraldic designs and layouts for printing.

Ruth Rowland

With a Bachelor’s Degree in illustration, an interest in letterforms led Ruth to study a Master’s Degree in hand drawn lettering, calligraphy and experimental typography at Central St Martins School of Art. Based in London, Ruth has freelanced for the graphics industry for over 30 years, working globally for a wide range of clients from the music, advertising and publishing industries. Clients include: Coca Cola, BBC, Starbucks, Virgin Records, Harper Collins, Marks & Spencer, Heathrow, Belmond Luxury Hotels, Penguin Random House, Island Records, Hotel Chocolat and Country Living Magazine, amongst many others.

Sharon Shaw FSSI

I am fascinated by the tactility of calligraphy and hand lettering when combined with the precision and flexibility of digital programmes such as Illustrator and Photoshop.  I offer innovative, 90-minute workplace workshops where your team can explore writing and drawing with different lettering tools. I also teach Calligraphy For Beginners and Decorated Letterforms at City Lit in London and I am available for Zoom or face-to-face mentoring sessions for those looking for creative guidance.

Keiko Shimoda

Keiko Shimoda was born in Japan, started to learn Japanese calligraphy since 4 years old, and alphabet calligraphy since 1996. Became a professional freelance calligrapher more than 10 years ago, working with big fashion brands, graphic design studios and film/commercial markets. Based in Cambridge now but regularly working with London clients too.
