The SLLA offers a wide range of workshops, evening meetings and events throughout the year and welcomes all those interested in lettering and associated skills, regardless of experience.
Workshops are held every other month throughout the year from January to November and cover a wide range of subjects from alphabet analysis to gilding, decoration, background techniques and much more. Non members are invited to book a place on workshops up to eight weeks before the date, for a slightly increased price.
The evening meetings with guest speakers, are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month from January to June and September to November with no meetings in July, August and December. Again non members are welcome to attend and the cost is £3.
From this summer there will be the opportunity to try three City of London Trails which have been planned around significant lettering, seen on buildings and street architecture. The walks are self guided and by following the instructions from A to Z, interesting areas of the city will be discovered as well as fine examples of lettering. Several visits are usually planned throughout the year and we also participate in collaborative schemes with other calligraphy groups, schools and community projects.
Our annual exhibition is held in October and all members are encouraged to enter work for display, which reflects the wealth of creativity, enthusiasm and breadth of experience within the group.
News and pictures about all our events appear, in brief, on this website. In addition, SLLA members enjoy a quarterly e-newsletter which advertises group projects and also features articles about recently attended workshops and meetings.
