Clerkenwell Walk

Robert Dunn led another of his successful City walks, this time around the Clerkenwell area. Starting at the Barbican, members went first to Charterhouse Square, stopping on the way to admire Florin Court of Poirot fame, and its Art Deco capitals.

Robert explained how Clerkenwell got its name and gave the group the history of the Clerkenwell area, one of the oldest London suburbs dating back to the 12th century. Over the centuries it went through a lot of changes, having been a fashionable suburb until the 19th century when it became an industrial suburb, and becoming fashionable again in the 20th century with arts & media companies, smart cafes and bars moving into the area. 

The walk finished at Farringdon station and, as all good walks do, this one ended in a local pub where members thanked Robert for an enjoyable and informative walk.
