About this event:

In this workshop we will create decorative letter designs that stand on their own. It is not necessary to have attended the first Blooming Letters workshop before attending this second one. Everyone is welcome as Els is revisiting the same topic but looking at it from a different angle. In the first workshop colourful initial letters were created for a greetings card, and in this new workshop we are thinking outside the box and creating letter designs that stand on their own.

You will begin the day by drawing your own letters in pencil, guided by Els as she shares her personal technique for discovering new and exciting letterforms. Once your chosen letter has taken form, you’ll enrich it with a decorative background, drawing inspiration from wildflowers or blooms from your own garden. You can draw in a realistic or abstract style, or somewhere delightfully in between, the choice is yours. Experiment with scale, placement, and pattern to craft compositions, reflecting your personal style. With your design in place, it’s time to add a splash of watercolour. You’ll use your floral inspiration to build a custom palette and you’ll learn how to shift its mood and energy.

This will lead to a finished artwork that’s uniquely yours - a celebration of letters, nature, and your own imagination.
