Practical Origami
A one-day workshop during which we will make three beautiful and functional origami-inspired designs: a card wallet, a diagonal pocket fold and a Victorian puzzle purse. The wallet uses simple strategic folds and basic bookbinding skills and is useful for keeping loyalty, gift and business cards in one place. The pocket fold results either in a letterlock, i.e. a document intricately folded and tucked in on itself, or transformed by the addition of a signature into a notebook, with a wrap-around cover and pockets. The puzzle purse is an origami-style love letter, which is also intricately folded and when fully closed resembles a flat pouch. The recipient opens it up layer by layer, revealing decorative borders, floral motifs and secret messages and, once fully open, the centre contains a declaration of affection.
The focus of the workshop will be on mastering the folding (and sewing) techniques for each design so you can recreate them at home. There will also be opportunities to decorate and personalise your designs with calligraphy, illustrations, stickers. They all make great gift ideas, especially at Valentines.
