About this event:

Toni Watts is a professional artist and illuminator with a special interest in using traditional gilding techniques to produce contemporary work. Learn more about Toni at toniwattsartstudio.com

Illumination is, as we all know, an endangered craft. It has been Toni's mission to 'demystify' the process of gilding on paper and make those skills available to a wider audience, hopefully ensuring its continued survival. She has taught classes worldwide, including most recently, at the IAMPETH (the International Association of Master Penmen, Engrossers, and Teachers of Handwriting) conference in America.

Toni will talk to us about the process of writing her recent book "Contemporary Illumination for the Calligrapher and Artist: Traditional Techniques Reinterpreted" (the good parts, the bad parts and the definitely ugly) and her experiences of being a British author in the US!

Doors open at 6pm followed by Toni Watts’ talk at 6:30 pm.

On this evening as well as having our most distinguished guest speaker Toni Watts we will also be celebrating Christmas with mince pies and a drop of wine to all who attend. Everyone is welcome.

Free event for members (please bring your membership cards) and £5.00 for non-members.

Happy Christmas to all! from your Chairman and the SLLA Committee.
